The Artists Circle Call

During this time of uncertainty and isolation, it’s important that artists gather.

That’s why I’m inviting you to join me in an Artists Circle call on Thursday, May 13th at 5:00 pm Greenwich Meantime.

What is an Artists Circle?

It’s a powerful coming together of community, open to all artists, everywhere.

There’s no prerequisites! You don’t have to be enrolled in my course or pay any money. You don’t have to have an exhibition record. In fact, it doesn’t matter if you’re an established artist or an aspiring artist. This is about you — about us — coming together as artists.

So bring your questions. About being an artist. About your practice. About the art business. Bring your ideas. Listen to other artists from around the world and learn how they’re coping.

  1. Hallo, the question is, should I post finished work on Instagram if I am looking for a gallery to have an exhibition. Don’t they prefer that people have not seen the work before?

  2. What type of work/medium/size is most popular with buyers? I know that’s a broad question I just wondered if there is,for example, a bigger demand for large oils painting rather than small watercolours?
Is it better to supply work framed or allow the buyer to choose a frame they prefer? I’ve discovered the framing can add significant cost to the finished piece.

    1. Hi Pennie! Your question came in too late for me to respond. I did talk about what is popular with buyers in this call. We will be posting the recording soon so I think you should give it a listen.

As far as frames, I let the buyer decide unless it’s part of the work.

      Thanks! Crista

  3. Hello Crista, Have you heard the term “Vanity Galleries”? Lately I’ve been approached to join a online Gallery for a fee.($ 150 usd)Normally, I’d run but I keep seeing their postings on social media and the work they represents is truly awesome and professional. I’m honoured to have been ask to join their ranks but perhaps they are catering to my vanity? Other than a few extra eyes upon my work is there any value in these online galleries?

    1. Hi Eric!

I’m sorry that your question came in too late for me to answer on the call. But Vanity Galleries are a new model that’s here to stay. Like anything, I would do my research first. What will they give you in exchange for the fee? Do they also take a commission? And most importantly, reach out to other artists and find out what their experience was.

I’ll be posting a recording of the call soon. I hope you can listen.

      Be well,

      Crista

  4. After being represented in galleries I am now looking for the “right one”. I am not so full of myself or my art to think that I should be in any gallery but am very interested in any advice on how to find the right fit.
I would love to work together with a Gallery or two. There is nothing better than spending time in a gallery with Artists and their works. My joy:)

    1. Hi Karen,

I’m sorry I couldn’t get to your question during the call. It came in too late for me to respond. I think the best way to determine what makes the right gallery fit is the other artists. Every gallery has their own aesthetic and so you want to see who else they are showing. Does your work fit? Is the price point the same?

Too often, artists think that because a gallery shows art, it means they should show their art. But they fail to really understand that a gallerist is a creative too. And to respect that is a huge step in understanding how to work with galleries. Thanks for your question! I hope you get a chance to listen to the call when I post the recording (very soon)

      Take care,

      Crista

  5. What are the best options for fine art photographers now in this time where everyone fancies themselves a photographer with their phone cameras and Instagram and changing colors with filters, etc.? How can those of us who identify as artist-photographers stand out and find opportunities for people to buy our art? Thank you!

    1. Hi B,

I’m sorry but your question came in too late for me to respond to it during the call. I’m a photographer too so I feel your pain.

And you’re right. Everyone and their mother thinks they are a photog now. But what makes someone stand out is quality and unique vision. By that I mean, doing something different with your pictures that shows they are unmistakably yours. It’s no longer enough to get ‘cool shots’ and maybe it never was. But what do you do very very well that reveals a new way of seeing?

Me, I pair my images with stories. I follow some photographers on Instagram who have their own unmistakable style or subject matter.

When I post the recording of yesterday’s call (in a few hours) give it a listen because I think the things I spoke about at the beginning will give you some clarification.

      THanks for your question!

      Crista

    1. Dear Jane,

I am so so sorry that this question came in too late for me to respond to it during the call. I am even more sorry that you weren’t on the call because I would have loved to have talked with you.

You’re right, it is a new world. And marketing is the way to get your work seen. Have you watched my free workshop “3 Ways to Get Your Art Back on the Walls”? I share some powerful tips there. But of course, it’s The Working Artist Masterclass that will really go deep into the new roadmap you’re looking for.

Please feel free to reach out via email : [email protected] and we can look at where you’re at.

And do give the recording of this call a listen. More information is there for you. I’ll have it posted in a few hours.

      Crista
