Meet Working Artist Tami Bensen
Tami Bensen's intuitive artistic process involves working without a plan, letting go, and painting organically, often reflecting things found in nature and more recently focusing on watercolors derived from crystals. Her latest series, for example, was inspired by an eclipse of the moon and documents the process a soul goes through in transition, a feeling she is familiar with from her own life transition when she quit her job. The energy Tami puts into her work comes from this story, from standing up, from being brave and taking a leap of faith. When Tami discovered The Working Artist on Facebook, she felt instantly touched by Crista’s energy, which helped her gain confidence as an artist despite initial nervousness about spending money and not having been to art school. Crista provided a safety net, encouraging her to jump and assuring her it would be okay. Tami's biggest hurdle was overcoming conflicting money messages in the artist community, but with The Working Artist's help, she learned to price her work effectively and speak proudly about it, even experiencing a bidding war at her first show. Her initial intention was to connect with people, and her work achieves this, particularly resonating with those undergoing personal transitions. Tami is most proud of this emotional connection. She advises other working artists to 'Trust yourself, don’t judge yourself. Be brave and trust the process.' Tami also teaches Intuitive Art, aiming to change perceptions of art and make it accessible as a meditative practice, especially for those afraid of their own creativity.
